Expected prior knowledge
The Master program Data Science & Artificial Intelligence is a specialized Master program requiring prior knowledge in the areas of Computer Science, Data Science and Mathematics on the following subjects:
- Linear Algebra
- Logic and Set Theory
- Probability and Statistics
- Data structures and Algorithms
- Object-Oriented Programming and Software Development
- Data Modeling and Databases
- Machine learning/Data mining
- Visualization
Group project work, that include the skills presenting and writing.
The following TU/e courses provide the necessary prior knowledge.

TU/e Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Data Science
Students with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Data Science already complete most of the admission requirements through the major courses in their Bachelor program.
Students can acquire the missing prior knowledge by taking electives during their TU/e bachelor program. There are several outcomes
- All prior knowledge is obtained through electives. The student can be admitted to DS&AI.
- When bachelor is obtained and 4 to 6 out of these courses left, the student could follow them as a DS&AI pre-master program.
- When bachelor is obtained and a maximum 3 out of these courses left, the student could follow them as homologation courses as part of the master program.
The second and third option should be discussed in advance with an academic advisor for masters in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and approved by the DS&AI admission committee.
Please, visit the TU/e Admission and Enrollment page for more information about the admission process.
International Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Data Science
Students with an international Bachelor degree in Computer Science have to apply for admission via the admission committee. Please, visit the TU/e Admission and Enrollment page for more information about admission and other requirements.
Other TU/e Bachelor degree
Other non-TU/e bachelor
Students with another university bachelor degree can only be admitted to master DS&AI if the deficiency is not more than 15 credits (3 courses of 5 credits).
We suggest these students check the table above (if needed look up courses in TU/e course catalogue) to estimate if the deficiency is not more than 15 credits themselves. If the estimate is that the deficiency is not more than 15 credits, students submit a master program application for the decision of our admission committee, see the TU/e Admission and Enrollment page. Otherwise students can follow the DS&AI Pre-Master program.
