Preliminary study program
Within the first semester you start orientating how your learning path and personal master program will look like. Based on your PDP and the meetings with your mentor, you will define your intended Track, Expertise Areas to specialize in, electives, option for the M21 semester and your preferred Graduation Mentor.
The Preliminary Study Program is also a formal tool for documenting your exam program. You will formalize your choices by delivering your filled out and signed Preliminary Study Program Form to CSA-ID before the deadline.
On the form you indicate your:
Master track
On the form you will indicate your preliminary choice for your track. This track can help you in guiding your learning path and activities in the direction of your envisioned professional career after ID. The first semester is ideal to explore possible career opportunities that suit your professional identity and vision. Discuss these with your mentor. You can find more information about the tracks on the Specialization master track page.
Although your Track choice is preliminary, it is important to check when the related track course will be given. You can find more information on the Track course page.
Specialization in expertise areas
On the form you will indicate your preliminary choice for your specailization in expertise areas. These expertise areas are connected to your professional identity and your vision. If you do not have a clear idea on the unique specialization profile that you want to develop, it is important to use the first semester to explore this. Discuss this with your mentor. You can find more information on the Expertise areas page.
Electives
On the form you will indicate your intended electives. Since for each academic year the offer of educational components may differ, it cannot be guaranteed that the electives you intend to take, will be available in the expected timeslot. However, the set of intended electives is important input for discussing the coherence of your study program with your mentor. For more information on choosing electives, check the Electives page.
Options M21 semester
Within the M21 semester you will prepare for your FMP and your career after ID. To match your individual needs you have the opportunity to choose between doing courses or a project. You can find more information on the Options M21 page.
An International Exchange requires a nomination procedure of more than six months. If you would like to go on an exchange (taking courses at one of our partner universities), send a copy of the preliminary study program form to exchange.id@. Also discuss your plans and your top three of intended tue.nlpartner universities you would like to do an exchange at with your mentor.
Preferred graduation mentor
After the first semester you can/will be guided by the graduation mentor of your preference. To find a suitable match, you can inform yourself about our academic teaching staff by e.g. looking at their expertise (areas), their (research) projects, their connections with other institutes/companies and their coaching style. On the Mentor page you can find a list of our academic staff members and a link to the mentor platform, and links to their research profile and domains they are working in.
It is advised that an academic teaching staff member does not coach more than (in total) six final master students; with a maximum intake of three students per semester (depending on the capacity and role of the staff member within the department). To confirm the agreement with your preferred graduation mentor, this person has to sign the preliminary study program form.
Handing in the preliminary study program form
All choices mentioned above will need to be documented in the Preliminary Study Program Form. This form is available on the Forms and files page.
The form needs to be signed by you and your agreed mentor and delivered to CSA-ID before the deadline; the deadline before the end of the semester before you start your M12 semester, e.g. DPM120 Project 2 Design Research. For the deadline, check the Year Planning on the Forms and files page.
Mentors can only sign the form after discussing your preliminary choices and the coherence of your study program with you. In case there is no mentor match, discuss your plans with your current mentor (project coach). Please indicate in the form that there is 'no mentor match' and hand the form in before the deadline.
If your form needs to be updated, you will need to deliver a new form signed by you and your preferred graduation mentor.
